Art Models 8 Companion Disk Download Available

The Art Models 8 Companion Disk is now available for download. It is subtitle Practical Poses, which we try to explain this way:

Customers asked for more “practical” poses and described them as thoughtful or introspective; passionate and emotionally themed; portraits and close-ups; more relaxed everyday positions; and a range of body types and ethnicities, all in a modest style.

Certainly people will disagree with some of the pose choices, as each person's definition of practical is going to be unique to him or her.
Art Models 8 has 174 distinct poses, 55 different models, and over 4500 photos. If purchased individually from the Pose Tool, 174 poses would cost $1,042.26 but the Companion Disk Download is just $24.99. It's a bit ridiculous; we really should charge a lot more for it. Part of our mission has always been to make high quality reference photos available at a very affordable price. This is an extreme example of us carrying out that mission. You can see all the included poses at the link above.
If you buy the download (it's big so please have a high speed connection before ordering), please read the included e-book (in PDF format) and let us know if you find anything to correct or have suggestions for improvements. As of early April, there is still time to make changes.
The physical disk will be available in several weeks. The print book will be available from all major book retailers in September.

New Becca Session Available

New Model Ayame

We strive to provide variety in the models we photograph so we jumped at the chance to work with Ayame who was born and raised in Japan. We mostly work with models who have some family history from other parts of the world, like Korea, Polynesia, Eastern Europe, or Africa (to name a few), but who grew up and live in the U.S. It was especially nice, then, to photograph a person who grew up in the nation of their heritage and has the mannerisms and customs of that country. Many of Ayame's poses were chosen by her to illustrate either modern or historical Japanese activities (such as playing a Japanese board game) and several use authentic props.
Ayame is not only a beautiful and talented model, she is also a wonderful person and it was a true privilege to meet and collaborate with her. You can see her poses as we finish them in the Pose Tool.

New Model JohnV

We did a mix of poses with JohnV including some dynamic poses that take advantage of his muscular figure as well as casual everyday activities and some classically inspired postures. Our intention is that some will be useful for traditional artists, others for illustrators, and yet others for other types of art like comic books or digital modeling. You can see the poses as we finish them in the Pose Tool.

New Model PepperK

We did a mix of poses with Pepper that take advantage of her naturally thin yet muscular figure (similar to longtime Art Models model Susan). You can see the poses as we finish them in the Pose Tool.

New Claire Session 2 Available

Claire's second session is now available. It's even larger than the Claire 1 download and includes 36 poses, but like Claire 1 it was also just a little too small to break into two sets. The result is a large collection of poses at a bargain price per pose.

We always try to respond to customer requests and as a result, several poses in this set could be considered risqué, for example, 231, 232, and 236. If you might find any of those offensive, please skip this download!

Now photographed at 36 Megapixels!

Thea is one of the first models photographed with our new, higher resolution camera. The photos were taken at 36 megapixels (before cropping). This allows for even more extreme detail when zooming in on photos. This is up from our previous maximum of 21 megapixels. We're also finding the new camera has a greater dynamic range; allowing for deeper shadows and brighter highlights without losing as much detail in those areas. Take a look at these two for comparison, first with the 21MP camera then with the new 36MP:

Thea appears closer to the camera (as shown by her eyes, nose and mouth appearing larger). The pores are clearer and the fine hairs on the face are more visible. The dark areas are rich without losing detail. It's an imperfect comparison, taken at different times with different models in different poses and lighting, but hopefully it gives the idea. We'll do a direct comparison with the next model.
